"This is a hidden gem of Japanese restaurant. Somemore, it is hide inside the book store. I tried their nato set serve with sashimi, the sashimi is very fresh, and the side dishes is authentic. The environment is undoubtedly nice. With a reasonable price for set, and balance flavour of food taste, I highly recommend this."

"I’ve noticed Ume Tei in MyTOWN for about a year but never tried it because it was pricier than my usual spots. My husband and I decided to save up and finally take some time off to try the restaurants on our list, and this one was right at the top! I really love the ambience here. I’m an avid book reader, so the smell of fresh books while having dinner was such a unique and comforting touch. The place was quiet and everyone seemed very mindful of the environment, which made the dining experience even better To be honest, I don’t usually enjoy Japanese food as I prefer stronger, more flavorful dishes. But I’d been craving Japanese curry for a while, so I ordered the Beef Katsu Curry Set, while my husband tried the Umezen. He’s a big fan of unagi, so it was an easy recommendation for him. The curry was thick, delicious, and exactly what a Japanese curry should taste like. The beef katsu was fresh and easy to chew (not tough at all) and overall really enjoyable. The miso soup was fragrant the moment it arrived and tasted perfect. My only complaint is that I wish the breadcrumbs stuck to the beef a bit better. Overall, a solid 9/10 As for the Umezen, my husband really liked it. I’m not a big fan of fish myself, but he said it was very good, so it must be! Personally I think it could use a bit more sauce, but still an 8/10 from us We also got complimentary green tea with our sets. My husband chose the cold version while I went for the hot one. The hot tea was nice, but the cold one had a stronger flavour. I do wish the hot one was just as rich, but it was still enjoyable. Overall, we had a lovely experience and would definitely return, if we have the budget!"

"Been visiting Mytown for thousand times only found out this Japaneses restaurant via Mytown App. If not, who would have thought there is a restaurant inside a book store? I love the ambience here comaper to sushi zanmai and baby cami sushi, which were both quite crowded and noisy. Here is more peaceful. Food offer also all served in beautiful utensil. I especially love the tea pot which they served warm green tea. It's nice to have read bean dessert in the set meal. But it would be lovely if it were less sweet."

"Authentic Japanese run by jananese. Teisyoku(set lunch), rice bowl, sushi, noodle. Lots of choice with affordable price. I tried noodle with makimono. Makimono is huge in volume. Bit difficult location to find out as this is inside book shop."

"This is one of our favourite spaces in KL - it is not just a restaurant but the perfect balance of feeling at home whilst being away from home. Simple, cosy and hidden inside Bookxcess and away from the world, Ume Tei is a place where we can enjoy good wholesome Japanese food as well as retire for a while from the things that stress us. We come as often as we can and enjoy working our way through the extensive menu of many sets in this well-established, family-owned Japanese restaurant. We even have a favourite table! Every tray is a joy of pretty plates and clean flavours. It's always hard to decide because we want to eat everything. The food is so comforting here. Classic sashimi, stir fried meats, tempura, noodles and dons. The sets are especially good value and come with a good assortment of sides such as pickles, chawanmushi, potato salad, or vegetables and many sets even include a jelly or a sweet red bean dessert. The minimalist Japanese decor gives a calming zen vibe. I hear that Ume Tei has been around for decades; first at Ampcorp Mall and only in the last few years at MyTown. Wish we had found it sooner. Sometimes, and quite often, there's someone tinkering at the Bookxcess piano near the restaurant and if they are good, we get a bonus recital with our meal. If not, it's still fun to chuckle at the attempt. It's always fun to hear a new pianist, and even better if they are worth their weight in talent."

"Our family have a pleasant dining experience here. The restaurant was inside bookaxcess shop and you need to navigate your way into the restaurant. Once there we ordered what we wanted and 5 minutes food arrived one after the other. The set that we ordered came with green tea. Food cannot find any faults with it as presentation and taste was just right. Service were quick and polite and the place was not noisy. Easy to have conversations."

"Tucked away among the books is an unexpected find — a Japanese restaurant inside BookXcess! They serve delicious and affordable Japanese food, with generous set meals that will leave you full and satisfied. For sets that come with white rice, you can even swap it for garlic rice at no extra cost — and it’s absolutely flavourful. Each set also comes with a small dessert. This spot is perfect for families and friends looking to enjoy a hearty meal and good conversation. To top it off, you can listen to aspiring pianists playing live on the piano at BookXcess — the perfect touch of music over dinner!"
